The hustle and bustle of the holidays can frazzle even the mightiest of nerves.

This calls for a micro-vacation.

What is a micro-vacation you ask?

How about gazing upon your computer screen at some video footage of far away lands with relaxing local music for the answer to that question.

Today’s choice: The coastal town of Larnaka, Greece.

Apropos on Black FridayCharles, Prince of Wales addresses the Foreign Press Association with a comprehensive lecture on the dangers of unchecked consumerism and the need for an increasingly holistic worldview in light of the global social, economic and environmental challenges. The credit crisis is a side effect of a throwaway society and consumerism is no cure for depression, he says, and we need to question the concepts of “Modernity” and “Economic Growth” we take for granted.

Wait, what!?

This calls for some Hank Williams.

Also, some folks started a petition to have Hank Williams reinstated to the Grand Ole Opry, which you can check out by clicking HERE.

There are times when words cannot express the raw, pure, and powerful emotions that they are intended to convey.

This is one of those times.

But I will say this,

To all the Men and Women in the Armed Forces, Past and Present, who have Sacrificed so that I may have the Freedoms that I so deeply cherish, Thank You.

Thank You from the bottom of my heart. I owe you my life. God Bless You.

Okay, here is a story that puts the 3 in 3-dimensional.

1. Newspaper runs historic cover story of Presidential win by Barack Obama.

2. Local news station does story on said historic cover story of Presidential win.

3. Peterson’s runs story on blog about Local news station doing story on historic cover story, er..um, well, you get the picture.

Before the ink was even dry, the newspapers were flying off the racks at Peterson’s Convenience Stores in downtown Portland the morning after Barack Obama’s Presidential Victory.

This was an historic occasion, and many, many people wanted to have some kind of keepsake to add to their library of cherished memories. Only problem was, we had to turn many people away empty handed.

It became quite apparent that this situation was equally widespread across the entire globe. So much so, that local T.V. news outlets were running segments about the newspaper shortages covering the Obama win.

Here at Peterson’s we have our own claim to fame. KPTV Field Reporter Brent Weisberg, pictured below, was on scene at our Morrison store covering the situation.

Brent took a few shots of the store, and then some shots of the newspaper racks.

After the exterior shots, he headed inside for the interview with star employee, Mr. C.

The actual news coverage can be seen in it’s entirety by clicking THIS LINK HERE.

Stay tuned, as we have more news worthy stories developing as we speak. And I have a hunch that KPTV will be back to cover these as well.

Now if you’ll exuse me, I have to go get a newspaper, and this one won’t be lining the bottom of a parrot cage. This one I’m keepin’ mint.

UPDATE: CLICK THIS LINK HERE to view several hundred newspaper front pages from around the world regarding the Obama win.

But if your on a budget like me, there are a plethora of FREE books that you can read online.

Google book search is one place to start. They have a lot of free books to read. Not all of them are free, but you just need to refine your searches to find what you are looking for.

One of the best sites I have found however, is THIS ONE.

There you will find 25 links to online libraries. And although curling up with a laptop doesn’t quite have the same appeal, they sure do have toasty bottoms! Which is perfect for those chilly Autumn/Winter days and nights.

Happy Reading!
